Description
An archaeological evaluation of approximately 1.8ha of pasture adjacent to Barnaby Mead was carried out by AC archaeology in July 2001. The northern part of the proposed development site extends onto the floodplain of the river Shreen. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of eight trenches 240m long in total, across the site. This revealed evidence of medieval settlement activity with late Saxon pottery in the south-east part of the site. A well-constructed trackway, partly visible as an earthwork, was recorded in the central part of the site.
