Description

Shaftesbury and District Archaeological Group conducted a small-scale excavation inside St Rumbold's Church, Cann, in advance of its conversion into a music hall for Shaftesbury School during 1986. The excavation '...uncovered right-angled footings of large Upper Greensand blocks at the west end of the present nave, extending 2.0m north and 1.7m east. These probably represent part of the foundation course of the original Saxon/medieval building dating from the 13th century or earlier' [1].
