Description

Observations during building works revealed no evidence for medieval occupation, suggesting that, if there were a medieval suburb on this side of Wimborne, it was likely to have been confined to the main road and the area immediately adjacent to the site of St Catherine's chapel. (1) Topsoil stripping and digging of foundation trenches revealed construction levels for the glasshouses and ancillary buildings that had formerly occupied the site. The soil stripped from the site was a brown-earth gravel terrace soil. (3)
