Description
The proposed development lies on Dogbury Hill, part of the chalk ridge on the eastern side of the Cerne Valley. The solid geology is Chalk with superficial deposits of Clay-with-Flints on top of the ridge. Evaluation comprised of two test pits, one 2m by 1m (Trench 1), and another 1m by 1m (Trench 2). Trench 1 was sited on the position of the proposed base slab, while Trench 2 was placed on a point along the length of the proposed power duct. Trenches were located using taped measurements taken from plans provided by the client. The test pits were excavated by hand all the way down to the top of natural deposits. They were then cleaned by hand and all deposits recorded by written, drawn and photographic records. No archaeological features or deposits were found indicating a lack of activity in the immediate area. It is hard to say for certain however due to the small area under evaluation.
