Description

Observations and recording during groundworks for a new organ gallery supported by two supports set 2.25m apart. Floorboards were removed and a foundation trench 0.7m by 0.7m was dug down to solid ground. Floorboards were also removed in the southwest of the nave for the construction of stairs to the gallery. Excavation of the foundation pits was observed during hand-excavation. No traces of earlier phases were observed during these works, and it seems likely that 19th-century repairs removed any earlier deposits.
