EDO5523 - Eroding Features at Burton Cliff, Burton Bradstock; excavation 2009

Terrain Archaeology recorded two eroding features at Burton Cliff, Burton Bradstock. One was a two metre high rubble wall which is in danger of falling onto the beach. The second, the partially exposed remains of a World War 2, 4-inch gun mounting. This survives as 14 nuts and bolts, sitting in an incomplete 44inch diameter ring. These are the only visible remains of the gun emplacement. These features were recorded photographically using monochrome film and digital photography. They were located using 1947 RAF aerial photographs and by triangulation using a prismatic compass. The wall and its surrounding features were planned to a scale of 1:100, and the gun mounting planned to a scale of 1:20. No other finds or features were identified during the recording.
