L-P Archaeology was commissioned to carry out a desk based assessment between The Spinney and Wareham Road in Lytchett Matravers. This is in preparation for potential redevelopment by Barratt Southampton. The assessment is based on documentary and cartographic research, as well as previous work in the area. It also makes use of the Dorset County Council Archaeological Service Sites and Monuments Record.
The site under assessment does not contain any known archaeological deposits of national importance, or Scheduled Ancient Monuments. It is likely that agricultural activity may have affected any archaeology previously present. The potential for archaeology on the site has been deemed to be low across all periods, and is Low-Moderate for Medieval and Post Medieval remains.
(No exact dates given for work duration).
