Description
AC Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation in advance of a proposed housing development, on land formerly part of Lord Digby’s School. Three trenches were excavated using a mechanical JCB mini-digger, equipped with a 1m wide toothless bucket. Each measured 5m by 1.5m involved the removal of topsoil and overburden down to natural clay and limestone. All excavations took place under constant archaeological supervision.
All three trenches contained evidence for medieval activity on the site, in the form of pottery sherds. From trench 1, two post holes were observed, one of which contained pottery of a medieval date.
