Description

Wessex Archaeology carried out an archaeological watching brief during the topsoil stripping of the Duntish Reservoir pipeline. The total route of the pipeline was c.1.5 km in length. Each plot of land that the pipeline passed through was monitored during and after topsoil had been stripped. Stripping was done by a tracked excavator, equipped with a toothless bucket, inside an easement of approximately 10m width. The spoilheaps and stripped surface were scanned for artefacts. No archaeological features were observed after topsoil stripping. The search of stripped surfaces and the spoilheaps revealed a low level of post-medieval and modern pottery, and ceramic building material.
