Description

Thames Valley Archaeological Services was commissioned to carry out an archaeological evaluation on land near South Down Quarry as part of the proposed extension to the quarry. The evaluation consisted of the excavation of seven trenches, each measuring 30m by 2m. Topspoil and overburden was removed using a 360ยบ machine equipped with a ditching bucket. Three of the trenches contained features. These consisted of three cut linear features and three drystone walls. None of these features however are dateable.
