Description

The digging of cable trenches associated with the installation of photovoltaic panels was monitored by AC archaeology at intervals in October and November 2011. Several features of probable archaeological origin were recorded. Most of these features were thought likely to represent old field boundaries and drainage gullies, but contained no dateable evidence. Several features which could be dated to the late post-medieval and Victorian periods were recorded; these were pits and drains. A record was also made of visible elements of the estate, including the wall of the walled garden, and a section through the floor of the motor shed, revealing a possible earlier structure.
