Description

Observations and recording during construction of a photo-voltaic solar farm. Groundworks comprised shallow excavations (maximum depth 0.1m) for features such as the haul road and temporary compound, with deeper excavations for cable trenching and ancillary buildings. Excavation was done using tracked machines with toothless grading and ditching buckets, under direct archaeological supervision. The overlying soil sequence across the site was broadly consistent, comprising a simple subsoil and ploughsoil over the natural geology. No archaeological features were observed, and no finds recovered.
