Description

The results of the survey showed the presence of numerous anomalies, including several probable modern services. The survey produced high quality data but it was difficult to determine the origins of most of the anomalies identified, though some were more clearly modern or historic and related to existing or former buildings. It was noted that few of the anomalies identified were consistent with the henge ditch, possibly due to truncation of the monument by construction of the farmyard and associated buildings. The GPR data did not allow a definitive interpretation of the relationship between the base of the concrete pads or gravel/hardcore areas and the underlying geology; it is unclear if these were laid directly on the top of the bedrock geology or whether a soil horizon may still survive beneath the concrete.
