Description

Evaluation of part of a proposed extension to Dorey's Pit comprising three trenches near New Hall Farm and two trenches across field boundary banks to the north. The trenches near New Hall Farm were excavated by machine under archaeological supervision and using a toothless bucket. Each of these trenches measured 30m by 1.6m, and they revealed no evidence for archaeological activity. The trenches across the field boundary banks were excavated by hand and produced no dating evidence. Review of historic maps indicated that both boundaries were likely to be post-medieval; the parish boundary being the later, having been constructed after 1843.
