Description

Observations and recording during the excavation of footings for four detached houses and garages. The footings trenches measured between 0.4m and 0.75m wide and 1.0m and 1.5m deep. The archaeologists observed a layer around 0.3m deep of dark greyish-brown humic clay topsoil on top of layers of natural mid reddish-brown clay with sparse small limestone pieces around 0.3m thick, above yellowish clay with layers of limestone slat. The topsoil layer contained sparse modern finds, but these were not collected.
