Description

Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by Wates Construction Limited to undertake undertaking of a programme of archaeological observation and recording during groundworks, as a condition of planning consent for construction of a new sports hall and attenuation tank. The site proved to be heavily truncated, with observations revealing a sequence of natural layers partly disturbed by landscaping during construction of the naval base after World War Two and overlain by modern topsoil. No archaeological features were recorded. A collection of worked flint fragments was recovered from topsoil and subsoil layers.
