Description

Monitoring of initial ground clearance and lifting of a concrete surfac in preparation for building a replacement boathouse immediately adjacent to the Marine Centre. The works were largely within an existing terrace, presumably created for an earlier boathouse or similar building. A small part of the burnt shale deposit was exposed. No dating evidence was recovered but the deposit is most likely to be associated with the seventeenth-century glassworks situated nearby.
