Description
Observations and recording during groundworks relating to the proposed construction of new observation boreholes associated with the water treatment works. Five test pits were excavated, four entirely by hand. Test pits 1 to 3 were squares measuring approximately 0.50m by 0.50m and varying in depth between around 0.40m and 0.70m. Test pits 4 and 5 were extended to 1.35m by 0.80m and 1.75m by 0.65m with respective depths of approximately 0.40m and 1.10m. Test pit 5 was excavated by machine under archaeological supervision into natural chalk.
