The contractor's major excavation work took place around the east portal of Wide Street Tunnel during July 2010. This work was monitored by AC Archaeology in July 2010 and an archaeologist was on-site during all the major earth moving activities and six further site visits and monitoring were undertaken at intermittent dates until 13th March 2011 when the work was almost complete.
Detailed records and description of the features, locations and conditions of the major structures and surroundings were made of Lano's Gully, Lano's Arch, Wild Street Tunnel, Tramways in Tout Quarry and Inmosthay Quarry, and details of a collection of crane parts in Inmosthay Quarry.
