Observations and recording during repairs by Dorset County Council, at the request of English Heritage. The repairs were phased so that the northern arches were repaired first followed by the southern arches. A temporary coffer dam was erected to facilitate the repairs. The repairs were fully documented and set in the context of historical descriptions of the bridge. The exposure of the usually submerged parts of the northern arches revealed timbers of probable 19th century date and these were examined and partially removed.
