EDO6502 - Land North-East of Blandford Forum; geophysical survey 2018

A geophysical survey was commissioned by a group of developers including Wyatt Homes in relation to the planning processes for a housing development. The 35ha site comprised 6 fields numbered 1-6 located to the east and west of the A350/A354 roundabout. 31ha were surveyed by magnetometer survey. This used a Bartington 1m fluxgate gradiometer along 1m transects plotted at 25cm intervals. Cultivation effects such as undated ridge and furrow ploughing were noted in fields 1-4. Former field boundaries comparable to historic maps were detected in fields 1, 2, 3 and 4. A more definite ditch-like linear anomaly was noted in fields 5 and 6 possibly relating to a former field system. There were also in these fields scattered pit-like features of uncertain character.
