Description

Observations and recording during digging of engineer's test pits on the south and west sides of the church to assess the need for underpinning. The pits were dug by hand. All exposed parts of the medieval and later foundations of the church. Test Pit 3, set against the west end of the early 19th-century North Aisle, exposed the upper legs of an older, uncoffined burial, confirming earlier observations that the aisle was built over part of the churchyard previously used for burials.
