EDO6563 - Bourne Farm, Piddlehinton; geophysical survey 2016

Magnetometry survey of a site proposed for construction of an anaerobic digester plant. A scheduled round barrow is recorded approximately 20m to the west and a prehistoric field system in the general vicinity. The survey data revealed two ring ditches, previously unrecorded round barrows 25 metres and 75 metres to the east of the scheduled barrow. Both ring ditches correlate with low mounds that did not produce any magnetic response. An anomaly interpreted as an incomplete rectilinear ditch probably associated with the prehistoric field system recorded in the area, crosses one of the ring ditches. Other linear anomalies were of undertain origin, though some may relate to agricultural activity. Magnetic debris in a shallow depression was thought likely to relate to material in a former chalk pit. Elsewhere on the site, small zones of magnetic debris and strong discrete responses were recorded and regarded as being indicative of the dumping and spread of ferrous and other magnetically-thermoremanent material.
