Description
An architectural and archaeological appraisal was commissioned by the owner, Mr Rowle, in relation to a planning proposal for an extension to the Grade II listed building. The possibility had been raised that the building had incorporated a medieval chapel or leper hospital. The importance of the fabric of the rear wall where a new opening was proposed required assessment as did any below ground archaeology. Two site visits were made in addition to desk based research. There was no evidence that the building had incorporated a chapel or leper hospital. The wall at the rear was a later addition and no loss of historic features or fabric would result from the extension. There was limited potential for below ground remains of archaeological importance.
