A report was commissioned from Forum Heritage Services from an unstated source to assess the architectural and historic interest of the building particularly in terms of its possible inclusion in the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. The value of the building in the landscape was also considered. A house and its lifeholder was shown on the Tithe Apportionment map of Corfe Castle dated 1844. The cottage was dated to the late 18th or early 19th century with the possibility of being a mid 19th century replacement for such a cottage. Major alterations had been carried out and a structural report dated 2004 had raised concerns about the condition of the building. The loss of original fabric and features meant that the cottage did not retain sufficient interest to be added to the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. There was equally minimum historical interest.
