Description

An archaeological field evaluation consisting of the recording of five mechanically-excavated trenches was undertaken. Three trenches each approximately 1.5 metres wide and 40 metres long were excavated (Trenches 1-3). This amounted to 180m2 in plan, equivalent to an approximate 2% sample of the drill site area. Two further trenches (Trench 4 and 5) were dug at the southern end of the access track. Each of these was approximately 1.5 metres wide and 10 metres long. No significant archaeological deposits or finds were recorded. Three parallel subsoil features observed in Trench 1 were considered to be modern and to derive from agricultural activity.
