Description
Two trenches were dug by Norman Field in the vicinity of a site later developed for a new library. One trench was in the middle of the plot adjacent to the River Allen, and the the other 4.9m from the southern boundary wall at the western end of the site by the back access road to the museum. These trenches revealed no evidence for a medieval town circuit or occupation. (1)
