Description

'An examination of two large holes c.5m in diameter excavated because the ground was found to be too soft for traditional foundations confirmed the position and depth of the inner moat [of Wareham Castle]. It is on the south side of Pound Lane as predicted and the depth is about 7m as noted previously (RCHM 1970, II, 323).'
