Description

Archaeological evaluation by AC archaeology in advance of gravel extraction. Field walking produced evidence for prehistoric activity, dating, on the basis of diagnostic flint tools, to the Neolithic period. No diagnostic material of late prehistoric or later date was noted excapt for a very few sherds of Romano-British and post-medieval pottery. A trial trench failed to locate a Roman road believed to run through area. Fragments of an Iron Age bead-rimmed jar were found in shallow (possibly natural), depression. (No locational information other than site name and district. NGR and parish used those of Throop village).
