Description

Evaluation carried out ahead of development of a Park and Ride facility for Corfe Castle recorded a Roman ditch. Evaluation comprised 4 trenches within a 2ha area and represented a 2% sample of the proposed development area. Total area sampled 104sq m. The excavators concluded that the ditch was likely to be agricultural in nature and probably associated with the Romano-British settlement known to be near by. The evaluation demonstrated that the settlement did not extend into this area.
