Description

Southern Archaeological Services carried out an evaluation of land in advance of a proposed domestic extension during September 1999. The excavation of a single trial trench by hand measuring 3m x 1m, followed a desk based assessment. Site code: SAS163 (Event 1350777). The work revealed elements of the castle previously excavated in 1950. Mortar bonded masonry was found at a depth of 1.2-1.5m, along with 12th-13th century pottery, a robber trench and the backfill of Clark's 1950's excavation.
