Description

A desk based assessment commissioned by Ashvilla Estates Ltd as a preliminary assessment of archaeological and historic resources that exist within the area of a proposed development site. An area of 3.5km was studied around the site. The assessment established the study area contains no scheduled ancient monuments or listed buildings. The site does contain some archaeological potential associated with a late Iron Age and Romano-British industrial site known to have existed on the eastern edge of the application area. There is a lower likelihood of remains associated with the former medieval (Domesday) settlement at Worgret Manor. The site contains a number of historically important hedgerows and the southern area of the site has been heavily disturbed by a borrow pit used during the construction of the Wareham By-pass in 1980.
