During construction of a slipway and dredging by BP, BP's bore hole data was examined, spoil from the dredged channel was examined and Hamworthy sub-aqua club examined the area to be dredged before hand. Trial holes were dug at 25m and 50m from the present shore and the machine excavations on the foreshore were monitored. No archaeological material was recovered, although a v-shaped ditch probably of late Iron Age date was seen exposed in the cliff nearby. Information regarding sea-level change was obtained.
