Description

Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society with senior members of the Dorset Boy Scouts Association and Taunton Sub-Aqua Club investigated the causeway in 1959 and confirmed it was a causeway and that no structure if it existed, survived in the gap in the central channel. Trenching undertaken on Cleavel Point and on tidal mud flats. This was coupled with an underwater survey in South Deep Channel. A number of possible interpretations were advanced regarding the dating and purpose of the Causeway.
