Summary

A bowl barrow situated on the shoulder of a hill. This monument was destroyed in 1885. The antiquarian Edward Cunnington described it as a mound 35 feet in diameter and 11 feet high, and recorded the finding of a cremation with a copper dagger and knife-dagger. A collared urn was found during earlier investigations.

Full Description

Has been destroyed, excavated by E Cunnington, primary cremation, in plain collared Early/Middle Bronze Age urn, with grooved bronze dagger, 8.75in. Long and knife-dagger 3.5in. Long with two rivets, there was also a flint axe which may have been ceremonially broken. <4> Bowl-barrow destroyed in AD 1885. Excavated and numbered No.7 by Cunnington. Excavation produced a primary (?) cremation in a plain collared MBA urn, with an ogival bronze dagger and a knife dagger with rivets, also a broken flint axe. The finds are all in Dorset County Museum. <2-4> (SY 68509059). The area is under lawn and no trace of the barrow remains. A tall stone pillar set in a hedge and apparently uninscribed marks the site.<5>
