Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Sections through the Roman town defences were exposed and recorded during construction of an extension to the Lee Motor Works in 1955. These revealed a layer of flint interleaved with chalk, thought to be metalling of a road. Over this were layers forming the back of the rampart, and consisting of layers of relatively clean loam and chalk and others containing occupation debris.
