Summary
A ridge of natural chalk was observed on the west side of The Grove to the north of School Lane, Dorchester in 1962. This is likely to be the ridge between the outer and middle ditches of the the Roman Town Defences.

Full Description
"A ridge of chalk was exposed in 1967 about 100 ft. W. of the top of the scarp at Colliton Walk (68873:90929); the outer scarp was not seen (information from Mr. C. J. Green)." [1]
The location of this observation indicates that this ridge is almost certainly the remains of the chalk bedrock between the middle and outer ditch of the Roman town defences.
