Full Description

From Muckleford Farm, Bradford Peverell, an LBA spear-head, socketed with loops at the base of the blade, found with ox bones, whilst digging out a badger in 1932. <1> (SY 633935) Found by Mr Chell of Muckleford Farm, 600 yds due west of the farm, just in the borders of Frampton parish on a spur of Hampton Hill. At the findspot the subsoil is chalk 'but there had been some ancient disturbance'. The spear head, 24.8 ins long, may be ascribed to the transitional period M-LBA and about 1000BC. <2> Purchased by the Dorset County Museum; Acc No. 1934.40.1. <4> (SY 63529354) Found, whilst digging out a badger, in a mixture of chalk and soil about four feet below ground surface. Mr Chell pointed out on the ground the site of this find. The trench he dug is still visible in the rough pasture. There were no further finds. <5>
