Full Description

45 South Street is the former premises of Thomas Tucker & Co, manufacturers of twine thread, fishing and sporting nets, sailcloth, sacking and shoethread (1). Tucker is listed in the directories from 1824 and specifically at 45 South Street from 1898 (2). No. 45 South Street was used as a warehouse. Tucker & Co. also had other premises in Folly Mill Lane and St John's Works (1). The building is probably of 18th century date. It is of two storeys and constructed of coursed rubble with a slate roof. There are six ranges of sash windows with wide frames and gauged stone voussoirs to the front and three ranges of sashes with glazing bars to rear. The doorway has a neo-Georgian ashlar surround.
