Summary
Palmers Old Brewery was founded in 1794 by the Gundry family. In 1896 the brewery was bought by John Cleeves Palmer and Robert Henry Palmer and operated by J.C and R.H Palmer Ltd. The brewery includes a maltings which was built in 1837, a two-storey main block built of stone with a thatched roof and finials in the form of barrels, a three-storey west block also built of stone and a red brick chimney stack.At the rear of the brewery is a 18 foot diameter, breast undershot water wheel made by Helyear's Bridport foundry in 1879, which drives a water pump. Inside the brewery is a vertical steam engine by Bram and May of Devizes, which works a water pump and drives a sack hoist. Annual output of the brewery is around 7,000 barrels.

Brewery established 1794, but former rain water head was dated 1833. Hammer dressed stone main block, with double pitched thatch roof. Coped gable ends with finials in form of barrels. 2 storeys and attics. 2 ranges of segment-headed windows with glazing bars, that on attic floor of south block round headed. South windows on north elevation. Office block to south. Hammer dressed stone. Hipped slate roof. 1 storey. The complex was completed by 1901. <1>
