Full Description

(Area centred ST 708115) Pottery of the latter part of the Early Iron Age or of the early Roman period was found when under draining near the spring or well north of Hill Street Farm at ST 700801150. <1> According to Mr. Hole, pottery was found in about 1935 in the field between the stream and the road at about ST 70821184. It was found whilst drains were being laid at a depth of about 2 1/2 feet. The pottery was shown to Mr. Bean who probed the area. Sometime afterwards Mr. Hole found similar pottery at ST 70791144 when a hanging gate post was sunk to a depth of 4 1/2 feet. The field at ST 70821184 is now grass covered and the site at ST 70791144 falls in a farmyard. There were no surface finds of archaeological interest and no visible traces of antiquity. <2>
