Summary
Hotel. Early nineteenth century refacing of the 2 left hand units and late eighteenth century build of main facade at right hand. Square dressed stone walls, right hand block with Portland stone pilasters and framing to carriage entrance (blocked) with moulded imposts and projecting keystone. Slate roofs, with ridges at different heights for each unit.

Full Description
'Ilchester Arms Hotel, 40 yards N.W. of (6), has modern additions on the N.W.' (1)
Hotel, attached in street line. Early C19 refacing of the 2 left hand units and late C18 build of main facade at right hand. Square dressed stone walls, right hand block with Portland stone pilasters and framing to carriage entrance (blocked) with moulded imposts and projecting keystone. Slate roofs, with ridges at different heights for each unit. Brick stacks, at left hand gable end, at ridge of centre unit, backing on to carriage entrance; stone stacks at gable ends of the main facade at right hand. 2 storeys with dormers (left and right units), each unit of different heights. 8 windows in total. Left unit: 2- and 3-light wooden casements with glazing-bars. 3-light cast-iron casements with glazing-bars at right ground. Stone lintels with projecting keys. Cellar-opening at left ground. Blocked doorway at centre with depressed-arch head. 2 dormers with 2-light wooden casements and hipped slate roofs. Centre unit, 3 windows: wooden casements with glazing-bars to first floor. Ground floor openings: tall carriage-entrance, with 2-leaf plank doors and wooden lintel over; panelled door with stone voussoirs over; 4-light cast-iron case- ments with glazing-bars, in a widened opening; front door to hotel: C19 flush panelled door with same reveals and moulded architrave. Porch, carried on 2 cast- iron columns with flat corniced canopy over. This has C19 cast-iron railings round it. Main facade: 3 windows, tall sashes with thin glazing-bars, flared stone lintels with projecting keys, painted white. Stone cills. Centre bay projects slightly with a steep pediment over, and painted achievement-of-arms of The Earls of Ilchester in the tympanum. Blocked carriage entrance, with matching inserted sash-window, see above. 2 dormers over the outer bays with 2-light wooden casements with hipped slate roofs over. Attached premises at rear of left hand unit are not of special interest.
