Type and Period (1)
Full Description
A doubtful bowl barrow 12 paces in diameter and 3 1/2 ft high. It appears very mutilated and possibly upcast from a pit to the south. <2>
Perhaps a much disturbed barrow, about 3 ft high. <3>
The mound depicted on the OS 6" is composed of small flints and gravel bearing earth. It has a diameter 10.0m and a height of 0.8m, but appears to be merely the SE end of a large flat and rather rectangular mound which is set in an ENE - WSW direction.
The large mound is 24.0m long, 15.0m wide and generally 0.4m high. Large flints are scattered over its surface. It seems rather too far from the deep gravel pit to the S to be upcast from that pit, but the whole field surface shows signs of surface digging, and the mound may well be overburden from
nearby diggings.
Considering the quarrying, and the appearance of the mound, it is a doubtful barrow. <5>
A spoil mound. <6>
