Listed Building record MDO14525 - Cross south of St Andrews Church, Trent

Churchyard cross, the base and bottom of shaft are fifteenth century. Nineteenth century continuation of shaft and gabled aedicule. Lord Fisher of Lambeth, 99th Archbishop of Canterbury lies buried in the vault beneath the cross.

Described as remains of a 15th. Cent. Cross. <1> These remains of cross were removed to present site in the churchyard from the cross roads [see ST 51 NE 28]. It was restored as a 1914-18 War memorial. Graphical material omitted. <3> A restored circular calvary with lower diameter of 4.3m support a circular socket stone of HAM HILL STONE 0.4m high and 0.9m upper diameter. Set in the socket stone is a shaft of square section with sides of 0.3m and with ornately carved corners. The original shaft remains to a height of 0.7m and thereafter has been restored in two periods including a figure head. The restorations can be readily detached by the use of different stones and the relative amount of weathering they have been subjected to. There is no visible evidence that it is a war memorial. <5> It is supposed to be of 15thC date and is said to have been restored as a war memorial. <6>
