Full Description
Site comprises two heavily modified mills separated by a road. The north mill has a long 24 bay front elevation. The 18 bays at the north end are of 2 storeys with transverse hipped slate roofs. The 6 south end bays are now of 3 storeys with a recent metal-clad triple-span roof. There is also a narrower full-width block attached to the south end. The original flat-headed windows, some with original glazing bars, survive. The related buildings to the east have been demolished. Plaques on south end wall: "WW 1740 - 1907, ARW 1907 - 1922, EAW 1922 - 1936"; "HSP 1936". The remains of the south mill, which was originally a of long 3 storeyed building, are to the rear of large 18th - 19th century house. The house includes the rear wing, which was possibly used as warehousing. The mill is probably of early 19th century date. The 3 bay north-end, stone rubble section is still intact. It has wide windows with red brick splayed segmental heads and keystones, some original glazing bars have been retained. On the west elevation are 4 wide stone arches, which relate to the wheel chambers. The transverse hipped roof ridges are similar to the north mill. The single-storey remains of the south end of the mill survive and have similar windows.
