Full Description

Now part of White Hermitage Hotel. Italianate stucco villa, circa 1850, included partly for historical reasons - John Keble stayed here from October 1865 and died here in March 1860 - but mainly for picturesque quality of south-east corner tower on eminence above Pleasure Gardens. Tower 4-storey with coupled windows, round- arched and flat headed, on 1st and 2nd floors, 'belfry' stage with triplet windows of thin stepped Moorish type, capped by pyramidal slate roof. South front of 3 storey house has continuous balconies on 2 upper floors between tower and 3-storey canted bay under gable at south-west corner. Overhanging eaves.
