Full Description
Includes Nos 17 to 21 (odd) West Hill Road. Formerly the Bournemouth School of Art, circa 1880, ground floor now remodelled for motor showrooms. 3 storeys, pink brick with sparse stone dressings (bases, capitals, cornices). Upper floors divided in 3 by giant Ionic pilasters of brick, supporting entablature, modillion cornice, and pediment (containing sculptured coat-of-arms) flanked by balustraded parapet. 1st floor windows round-arched, except wider flattened central light, and marked off by small Composite pilasters. 2nd floor windows straight-headed, also divided by pilasters, with capitals wider than pilasters and supported on console brackets. Rear elevation (south) to Westhill Road of same materials tripartite windows with brick pilaster-mullions on 3 floors, topped by long glazed dormer strip of studios; shaped gable with Venetian window.
