This description is derived from the associated designation record, the validity of which has not been checked. Bosley Farmhouse is marked on the OS 1st edition 6" sheet LXXXVI (1889) at a slightly different location approximately 400m SSE of the building described above. This building has now gone and probably lay just south of the modern Old Barn Lane. The building described above is marked on the same map but not named (1). During the construction of an extension at the rear of the house in 1980, a large number of 9th-14th century pottery sherds were discovered (2). This ties in well with documentary evidence that the manor of 'Borstealle' was granted by King Ethelred to Selfric his priest c. AD 985.
