Summary

Parish Church, probably 12th century origin, north aisle 14th century, nave and tower 15th century, some 16th century work, major restoration and rebuilding in 1862. Rubble and chequered rubble and flint with ashlar dressings. Tiled roofs with stone gable copings. Plan: nave; chancel, north aisle, north west tower; south porch.

Full Description

(SU 06121154) St. Nicholas's Church (NAT) <2> The parish church of St. Nicholas, on the west side of the village, has walls of Heathstone rubble and flint, with ashlar dressings of Greensand and Heathstone; the roofs are tiled. The Chancel and Nave are of early 12th century origin and the round-head of a window of about 1100 is incorporated into the late-12th century north aisle which was widened and extended in the 14th century. The tower was built in the early 15th century and the whole church was extensively restored in 1862. <1, 4> Church of St Nicholas. Grade II*. <3, 5>
