Full Description
In Hutchins time the church was "a very small stone building dedicated to St Kenelm, consisting of one aisle and having one bell; but contained nothing remarkable." The new church retains the former Norman chancel arch. Illustration of the stone carving, said to be that of an angel. <1>
The Parish Church of St Kenelm was re-built about 1860. The 12th century chancel arch of the former church, extensively restored, was
re-erected in the new building. The late 13th century east window was also re-used. <2> <4>
The church, though C19th, incorporates a Romanesque sculpture, probably of St Kenelm, and possibly dated to the first quarter of the C12th. Of the nine churches in England dedicated to St Kenenlm this is the only church outside the bounds of C9th Mercia. <6>
